What to do

La Ahumada is located in the south mountainside of the Ojén Mountains, in an exceptional place to enjoy of nature.

Hiking

There are several paths that can be hiked directly from the cottage, some of them with light or moderate slopes, leading to peaks of up to 500 metres above the level of the house, some of them flat, such as the one along the CA-2215 way, where guest can enjoy the traditional Alcornacales scenery with the Atlantic coast on the background. 


A short drive away guests have access to a wide range of hiking experiences, including the "windmill" river, the Guadalmesi Valley, the Vultures Hill, etc

Cycling
Some of the hiking paths can also be cycled. Longer tracks, for example the one leading to the “Nuestra Señora de la Luz” sanctuary, or to the “Almodovar” reservoir, each one with distances of around 7 Km, are suitable for cycling. In the house there are two bicycles available for guests.

Environment exploring
La Ahumada (the southern part of the Alcornocales Natural Park where the cottage lies) is rich in flora and fauna. The region is particularly well-know for its birds, both indigenous and migrating species. Short-toed eagles, booted eagles, red kites, falcons, Griffon vultures, and even Egiptian vultures can be watched around the area. Also, there are several unique plants linked to the cork tree ecosystem. In Autumn, after the first rainfalls, it is possible to find native kinds of mushrooms such as “Macrolepiotas Procera”, or “Cantharellus Cibarius”.


Tarifa
The town, the southermost point of mainland Europe, is 11 kms away and offers plenty of options for entertainment - tapas restaurants, nightlife, kitesurfing and whale watching just to name a few. Tarifa boasts a long history that is reflected in its architecture, such as the Castle of “Guzmán el Bueno”, medieval city walls, morish old city, roman ruins of Bolonia and prehistoric dolmens.


Beach
The famous beaches on the Atlatic coast of Tarifa are a short drive away: Los Lances 11 kms, Valdevaqueros 14 kms, Bolonia 25 Kms. Even closer to the cottage, guests can access the little-visited Mediterranean coast of Tarifa, just 9 kms away, which is protected as part of the Parque Natural del Estrecho and is one of the few remaining large stretches of coast in the entire Spanish peninsula as yet untouched by urbanization.

Water sports
Wind sports such as windsurfing and kite surf, is an undeniable attraction for tourists who come to Tarifa. There are many schools to learn or practice these daring sports.

In Tarifa there are many way to discover all the aspects of the city and surrounding area. Numerous tourist companies offers varies activities such as climbing, whale watching in the middle of the Strait of Gibraltar or birdwatching.
